Personal parenting tips to handle my 2 years old daughter’s emotion

I would like to share a few ways that can handle my 2 years old daughter with you. You can take it as reference. Different children have different personality and behavior. Share with me know if you have other methods.

1. Remind her she have a sister so that she can accept existence of her sister.

2. Consistent educate her to share and love her sister.

3. Create simple game that I can involve both of them to participate to increase their interaction and to create happy and fun time together.

4. Spend ~15mins personal time with her. Normally I’ll read story books, listen and sing song together, dance with her and etc as she like this activity a lot. You can observe what your kids like and dislike and create personal time with them. They will like a lot.

5. Listen to her. She might express her feeling. I remind myself to encourage the right things that she do and tell her the right ways when she does some funny action.

6. Involve my hubby in the personal time and game time as she know we still love her although she have sister now.

Back home life after confinement

How is your day after you back from confinement home? It was challenging for me as a fully breastfeeding mother to take care a new born baby and a 2 years old daughter. I was lucky I have mother in law to help around after back from confinement home. I need about 1 week to settle down after back to home. Proper time planning are needed for me to express out the breast milk to avoid crashing with both of their eating time, diapering, bathing, soothing baby, help around some house chores and etc.

Taking care 2 children were easy if you able to handle well. I am still learning. The difficult part were to handle my 2 years old daughter emotion so that she can accept and sharing her toys, books and etc with her younger sister. Sometime she would do some funny action to attract our attention. My eldest daughter do not know how hard she touch her sister face. She want to carry her sister and sooth her when she cry follow whatever adult do. We need consistently educate her the proper way to love her sister. Thus, I need to paid full attention on my new born baby safety. Do you face the same situation like me?

Hepatitis B immunisation key learning and schedule information

Doctor advice me to retake the Hepatitis B injection as my immunisation level is very low after deliver of my second baby. Key learning from me is don't wait for the immunisation level become very low and you need to retake the 3 doses. One dose of injection is cost about RM60 now. You can avoid it by yearly checking on the immunisation level. You can just take 1 dose of boost to level up your immunisation.

I found out this link is helpful on the Hepatis B information. http://www.patient.co.uk/health/Hepatitis-B-Immunisation.htm. Check it out.

The immunisation schedule ( source from http://www.patient.co.uk/health/Hepatitis-B-Immunisation.htm)

You need three doses of the vaccine for full protection. The second dose is usually given one month after the first dose. The third dose is given five months after the second dose.

One month after the third dose you may need to have a blood test. You may need one if you are at risk of infection at work, especially as a healthcare or laboratory worker or have certain kidney diseases. Your doctor will be able to advise you if you need a blood test. This checks if you have made antibodies against the hepatitis B virus and are immune. This is because for about 1 in 10 people, three doses of the vaccine are not sufficient and a booster is needed after five years.

The schedule is the same for the combined hepatitis A and B vaccine which is also available.

Pushing beyond your Limits with Dr. Andrew Goh

I like Dr. Andrew Goh’s talk which I attended this morning. I don't feel bored and he was humor. I could feel the sincerely, motivated, energetic vibration along the talk.

I would like to share what I learnt from him with you.

I agreed with him that life is tough. You have the choice to choose. (1) Don’t make it tougher or (2) Make it tougher. Don’t give up and push yourself beyond your perceived limits.

I agreed with him that every generation also get the chance to succeed. The road to success is always there. Remember you’ve got to bring yourself so that you can success and don’t give up. You will success as your life is not over yet.

I also agreed that the greatest investment that yields the best return is an inquiring mind.

Share with me if you have any thoughts. J

Confinement life

Any ones like confinement? I don’t like confinement totally. I need to follow a lot of pantang although I am not sure it was the right thing to follow. The concept was better suffers only for 40 days.  It would make my life better later. I can’t imaging I don’t take bath for 22 days. The first child I still can tahan for 28 days. Haha..

I stay at De-Garden confinement home for the 2nd baby confinement. From the first day stay. I was counting down the day back to home, counting down the day when I can bath and etc. Almost every confinement mother had the same emotion (home sick) like me.Do you agree with me?

Confinement home will provide 5 meals a day. The meal will serve every 3 hours. Almost same like baby eating time except for night time.

The most enjoyable things in De-Garden confinement were the food. I was enjoying eating the food prepare by Ah Bee( Cook in De-Garden confinement home). She was a good cook. She will try to cook the food that we ask her to make. So sweet and caring. Can’t imaging she always give me the biggest portion as I always can finish the food. She prepared pizza, chicken chop, spaghetti, oats and etc for the confinement food. Everyday looking the eating time. It was so delicious.

My portion: 2 bowl of soup and big bowl of rice.

Normal portion: 1 bowl of soup and less rice.
Pizza..Yummy..Miss it a lot

Most people thinking i have a lot of rest time during confinement. I think No for mother who is fully breastfeeding. I need to express out the milk every 3 hours average to avoid breast engorgement and also express out the milk balance after direct feeding my baby.

Last thing that I miss in confinement is the friendship that was build. We help each others, encourage each other on the problem we faced and sharing experience.

Tips for nusing mother when baby Jaundice

Nowadays baby easy get Jaundice after birth. From Wikipedia, Jaundice, (also known as icterus, attributive adjective: icteric) is a yellowish pigmentation of the skin, the conjunctival membranes over the sclerae (whites of the eyes), and other mucous membranes caused by hyperbilirubinemia (increased levels of bilirubin in the blood). This hyperbilirubinemia subsequently causes increased levels of bilirubin in the extracellular fluids.

I just give birth my 2nd baby on September 27th this year. My 2nd daughter recover faster from Jaundice compare to my 1st child,. What i did differently is i fully give breast milk for this 2nd baby. I have misunderstood that giving mix breast milk with formula milk would help my baby recover faster from Jaundice. I get to know that baby Jaundice level will easy go down if baby able stool and urinate more often. With breast milk it will help baby stool and urinate more often. Thus, My 2nd daughter able stool and urinate more compare to my 1st child with the breast milk. Thus, she recover faster.

Besides, i also cut down taking ginger and " So Hup"  during confinement. Let me know if you have other thoughts.

Bad service at L*Z* Diamond at Lower Ground Penang Queensbay Mall

On 31st August 2010, my hubby and I brought 2 bracelets which need to repair spring hock and also repair the break apart bracelet in L*Z* Diamond at Lower Ground Penang Quensbay Mall. I went to L*Z* Diamond shop as I still keep one L*Z* Diamond receipt which I am not sure which bracelet belongs to. We show the L*Z* Diamond receipt to the sales persons and they told us that the receipt was belong to break apart bracelet. Thus, we only paid RM138 to change the spring hock for the 2 bracelets and they accept the receipt to repair the break apart bracelet for free service. They inform us to redeem back after 16 September.

On 17th September 2010, I went to redeem back the break apart bracelet around 2pm with my colleagues. I wear the bracelet in my wrist on the spot to make sure the bracelet is well repair. They also return back the receipt to me. Unfortunately, I found out the bracelet break apart again around 5pm.

I asked my hubby to brought the break apart bracelet to the L*Z* Diamond with the receipt at the same day around 6pm. To his surprise, the sales person claim the receipt item description is not match with the break apart bracelet. But, it is the same receipt which they just return me during noon time. They request him to get the right receipt for the repair for free service. I went back to the shop to understand the situation. To my surprise, they told me the same thing. They blame Anthony, one of the sales persons which make mistake. I questioned the sales person:
(1) Why they not inform me incorrect receipt when I redeem the bracelet
(2) Why they still repair the break apart bracelet although found out incorrect receipt and give back to me.
(3) There was not only 1 sales person with us when they inform the receipt was belongs to break apart bracelet on 31st August.

The sales person told me that they can’t help without the right receipt. Another thing to note is the bracelet break apart on another portion of the bracelet when I showing them the bracelet. I am not sure the bracelet is so fragile after they repair it or is it because of the poor design from L*Z* Diamond.

It was really a bad experience that happens to us at L*Z* Diamond. What do you think and what would you do if you facing similar situation?

5 days 4 nights Bali Trip

I am sharing my first trip to Bali with my hubby from 28th June- 2nd July 2010(5 days 4 nights) recently. Some tips and key learning would like to share in http://goay-bali.blogspot.com/. Hopefully it can give you some idea to plan out your Bali trip.

I was in ~6 month pregnancy when i went to Bali Trip. Most people will avoid to travel when they were pregnant. I have this decision as i have been ~2 years never travel with my hubby since i give birth my eldest daughter. I get to search online and advice from doctor and i was no regret plan out this trip.  Bali a good place for pregnant woman. 5 days 4 nights is just nice. Not too rush and I can enjoy very much on the cultural, scenery, food, people in Bali. It was a relax trip and the cost is reasonable too.

坐月子食疗

我决得这资料很有意义。就集合起来跟大家分享。

http://www.kwongwah.com.my/news/2010/07/14/17.html

Eat more barley

Forward mail from friend.Good to know.

Barley high in fibre, barley is also a kidney cleanser. Better yet, regular intake of it helps prevent heart disease.

Barley is good for your intestinal health too. Try to eat the barley grains you find in your drink or sweet broth with fu chook (beancurd skin) and ginkgo nuts.

Good article to share out from friend's forward mail.

http://webmail.cotas.com.bo/attach.msc?sid

It is just a mix of water, brown sugar and yeast.

1. Cut a plastic bottle in half, keep both parts. Can be Coca Cola / Pepsi
bottle.

2.   Take the lower portion of the bottle. Dissolve the brown sugar in hot
water. Let it cool down to ~70 deg F.

3.  Add the yeast. Carbon dioxide will form (This will attract the
mosquitoes)

4.  Cover the bottle with a dark wrap and place the top portion upside down
like a funnel. Place it in a corner in your house.

5.   In 2 weeks you will be surprised by the number of mosquitoes killed.

New RM50 note cannot be washed

Forward mail from friend.

Next time better double check your pants and shirt pocket and make sure no new RM50 bank note in them before throwing them into a washing machine.

All cleaned out after leaving wallet in the wash

By JOSHUA FOONG

PETALING JAYA: A mechanical engineer had RM200 literally “washed away” when the print on his new RM50 notes disappeared after he accidentally left his wallet in the laundry.
Yeoh Jit Shiong, 25, was shocked to find that the damaged notes were almost unrecognisable on Saturday evening.
What remained were the security threads and watermarks.

Faded notes: The four new RM50 notes that were decolourised after they were left in the washing machine by mistake.
“The printing was completely washed off, including the serial number.
“What’s surprising is that an old RM50 note that got washed along with the new notes wasn’t damaged at all,” said Yeoh.
“If an old RM50 note can withstand being in a washing machine, why not the new RM50 note, which is supposed to be an improved, upgraded version?” he asked.
Yeoh had withdrawn RM300 in RM50 notes from an ATM in USJ earlier in the day.
He said the notes from the ATM were new and genuine.
“I used RM50 to pay the cashier at a petrol station, who validated it with a bank-note detector.
“With the serial numbers washed off, how am I going to take the notes back to the bank for an exchange?”

Good info

Forward email from friend which i think good to share out.

MUSHROOM – EAR
Slice a mushroom in half and it resembles the shape of the human ear.
And guess what? Adding it to your cooking could actually improve your hearing.
That’s because mushrooms are one of the few foods in our diet that contain vitamin D.
This particular vitamin is important for healthy bones, even the tiny ones in the ear that transmit sound to the brain.

BANANA (SMILE) – DEPRESSION
Cheer yourself up and put a smile on your face by eating a banana.
The popular fruit contains a protein called tryptophan.
Once it has been digested, tryptophan then gets converted in a chemical neurotransmitter called serotonin.
This is one of the most important mood-regulating chemicals in the brain and most anti-depressant drugs work by adjusting levels of serotonin production.
Higher levels are associated with better moods.

BROCCOLI – CANCER

Close-up, the tiny green tips on a broccoli head look like hundreds of cancer cells.
Now scientists know this disease-busting veg can play a crucial role in preventing the disease.
Last year, a team of researchers at the US National Cancer Institute found just a weekly serving of broccoli was enough to reduce the risk of prostate cancer by 45 per cent.
In Britain , prostate cancer kills one man every hour.

GINGER – STOMACH
Root ginger, commonly sold in supermarkets, often looks just like the stomach.
So it’s interesting that one of its biggest benefits is aiding digestion.
The Chinese have been using it for over 2,000 years to calm the stomach and cure nausea, while it is also a popular remedy for motion sickness.
But the benefits could go much further.
Tests on mice at the University of Minnesota found injecting the chemical that gives ginger its flavour slowed down the growth rate of bowel tumours.

CHEESE – BONES
A nice ‘holey’ cheese, like Emmenthal, is not just good for your bones, it even resembles their internal structure.
And like most cheeses, it is a rich source of calcium, a vital ingredient for strong bones and reducing the risk of osteoporosis later in life.
Together with another mineral called phosphate, it provides the main strength in bones but also helps to ‘power’ muscles.
Getting enough calcium in the diet during childhood is crucial for strong bones.
A study at Columbia University in New York showed teens who increased calcium intake from 800mg a day to 1200mg – equal to an extra two slices of cheddar - boosted their bone density by six per cent.

BEANSPROUTS – SPERM

The stir-fry favourite bears an uncanny resemblance to the images we see of ‘swimming’ sperm trying to fertilise an egg. And research from the US suggests they could play an important part in boosting male fertility.
A study at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio showed that to make healthy sperm in large quantities, the body needs a good supply of vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant that protects cells against damage by harmful molecules called free radicals.
Just half a cup of bean sprouts provides 16 per cent of the recommended daily allowance of vitamin C for a man.
It’s not just dad but baby too who could benefit..
Bean sprouts are packed with folate, a vitamin that prevents neural tube defects, where the baby is born with a damaged brain or spine.

GRAPES – LUNGS
OUR lungs are made up of branches of ever-smaller airways that finish up with tiny bunches of tissue called alveoli.
These structures, which resemble bunches of grapes, allow oxygen to pass from the lungs to the blood stream.
One reason that very premature babies struggle to survive is that these alveoli do not begin to form until week 23 or 24 of pregnancy.
A diet high in fresh fruit, such as grapes, has been shown to reduce the risk of lung cancer and emphysema.
Grape seeds also contain a chemical called proanthocyanidin, which appears to reduce the severity of asthma triggered by allergy.

TOMATO – HEART
A TOMATO is red and usually has four chambers, just like our heart.
Tomatoes are also a great source of lycopene, a plant chemical that reduces the risk of heart disease and several cancers.
The Women’s Health Study — an American research programme which tracks the health of 40,000 women — found women with the highest blood levels of lycopene had 30 per cent less heart disease than women who had very little lycopene.
Lab experiments have also shown that lycopene helps counter the effect of unhealthy LDL cholesterol..
One Canadian study, published in the journal Experimental Biology and Medicine, said there was “convincing evidence’ that lycopene prevented coronary heart disease.

WALNUT – BRAIN
THE gnarled folds of a walnut mimic the appearance of a human brain - and provide a clue to the benefits.
Walnuts are the only nuts which contain significant amounts of omega-3 fatty acids.
They may also help head off dementia. An American study found that walnut extract broke down the protein-based plaques associated with Alzheimer’s disease.
Researchers at Tufts University in Boston found walnuts reversed some signs of brain ageing in rats.

Car air conditional

Forward mail from friend. Not sure true or not.
Please do NOT turn on A/C as soon as you enter the car
.

Open the windows after you enter your car and turn ON the AC after a couple of minutes.

Here's why
:

According to a research, the car dashboard, sofa, air freshener emit Benzene, a Cancer causing toxin (carcinogen - take time to observe the smell of heated plastic in your car).

In addition to causing cancer, Benzene poisons your bones, causes anemia and reduces white blood cells.

Prolonged exposure will cause Leukemia, increasing the risk of cancer.

Can also cause miscarriage.

Acceptable Benzene level indoors is 50 mg per sq. ft.
A car parked indoors with windows closed will contain 400-800 mg of Benzene.

If parked outdoors under the sun at a temperature above 60 degrees F, the Benzene level goes up to 2000-4000 mg, 40 times the acceptable level.

People who get into the car, keeping windows closed will inevitably inhale, in quick succession, excessive amounts of the toxin.

Benzene is a toxin that affects your kidney and liver.. What's worse, it is extremely difficult for your body to expel this toxic stuff.

So friends, please open the windows and door of your car - give time for interior to air out -dispel the20deadly stuff - before you enter.
